Gonzales & Bonneaux Named Top Athletes of the Year Congratulations to Hunter Gonzales for being named the Orange Leader's Male Athlete of the Year for the second straight year. Hunter was the starting quarterback, helping LCM finish 7-3, its best record since 1997. In basketball, he averaged 16.9 points a game with 5.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.2 steals. In baseball, he hit .412 while helping the team make it to the playoffs.
Congratulations also to Garhett Bonneaux for being named the Orange Leader's Soccer Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Way to go, Hunter and Garhett!

Jones Named to All-State Softball Team Congratulations to Ashleigh Jones, who has been named to the Class 4A All-State Softball Team. Jones plays outfield and was the leadoff hitter for LCM.  She hit a .482 and led LCM in runs scored. She is one of three players out of District 20-4A who made the team. Congratulations, Ashleigh!

Sonnier Named East Offensive MVP at All-Star Classic Football Game On Saturday, June 11, Zack Sonnier helped the East team defeat the West 20-13. Zack was named the East Offensive MVP. Congratulations, Zack!

2011 All-Orange Leader Baseball Team Named  Congratulations to the following LCM players for making the 2011 All-Orange Leader Baseball team: Zack Drouilliard - Offensive Player of the Year. First Team: Kody Smith - Pitcher, Ryan Waddell - Short Stop, Hunter Gonzales, Outfield. Second Team: Jonathan Allen - 3rd Base, Ryan Carline - Outfield, Kevin Adams - Catcher, and Alex Blem - Designated Hitter. Way to go, Bears!

Valedictorian/Salutatorian of Class of 2011 Congratulations to Jordan King and Katelyn Peasley!
Jordan King - 2011 ValedictorianJordan King, the son of Jon and Sandra King, is the valedictorian of the Class of 2011. Jordan played the french horn all four years in the Wind Ensemble, made All-Region Band 1 all four years, and qualified for All-Area band three times. He served as the band’s Property Officer as a sophomore and as Band Chaplain as a junior and senior. He started on the boys’ varsity soccer team two years, playing a variety of positions. He was a National Honor Society member as a junior and senior. He competed in UIL Academic Social Studies, placing 2nd in district as a sophomore and 1st as a junior, qualifying for area. Jordan helped the LCM Quiz Bowl team compete on the KFDM Channel 6 Academic Challenge. He actively volunteers during the summer at the Christian kids camp “Camp His Way” at Zavalla, Texas. Jordan was awarded the Mirabeau Scholarship and will attend Lamar University. He hopes to major in chemical engineering and then decide between research and development or becoming involved with business. When asked about how he felt about getting valedictorian, Jordan replied, "I'm very honored to receive this recognition. I'm blessed to have this gift and would like to thank God and my family as well as my friends."
Katelyn Peasley - 2011 SalutatorianKatelyn Peasley, the daughter of Curtis and Ivy Peasley, is the salutatorian of the Class of 2011. She has been actively involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities. As a member of the Honey Bear Drill Team, she served as its Class Representative and as Lieutenant, Co-Captain, and Captain. On the Student Council, she held the offices of Historian and Webmaster. She was selected to the National Honor Society as a junior and a senior. Katelyn competed in UIL Academics events of Science, Social Studies, and General Math, placing at the District and Regional levels in Social Studies. She not only participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes but also volunteered through a variety of organizations including LifeShare, Orange Lion’s Club, Shangri La, and a mentoring program at Little Cypress Elementary. She maintained perfect attendance throughout high school and was a Star Student her Junior year. Katelyn will attend Baylor University where she will pursue a degree in Neuroscience and participate in Baylor’s Honor Program. After receiving her degree, she plans to attend medical school and become a radiologist.

Brasseaux Finalist for Golf Awards Congratulations to Brooke Brasseaux, who has been named as a finalist for both the Junior Golf Player of the Year and for the Leadership Award. In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the birthday of Babe Didrikson Zaharias, the First Tee of the Golden Triangle and the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Foundation have partnered to establish the Junior Golfer of the Year Awards to recognize area junior golfers for their accomplishments on and off the golf course. The preliminary nominations were narrowed by area coaches, and local golf professional and media representatives have cast their ballots. The award winners will be announced at a special awards dinner and reception on Friday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Club at the Montagne Center of Lamar University. Congratulations and good luck, Brooke.

2011-2012 FFA Officers The LCM FFA held its banquet on Thursday, May 19. The new FFA Officers for 2011-2012 are Tyler Dickert - Parliamentarian, Brandon Kresser - Sentinel, Wyatt Brown - Reporter, Alex Fontenot - Treasurer, Tyler Sanders - Secretary, Alec Lawson - Student Advisor, Heather Garber - Vice President, and Nathan Howlett - President. Katherine Leggett received two scholarships--a $1,000 award from the National FFA sponsored by David Self Ford and a $500 award from the LCM Young Farmer Chapter. Nathan Howlett and Anabelle Graham each received scholarships to attend the National FFA Washington Leadership Conference this summer in Washington, D.C. Congratulations!

Hayden Reed Wins State in Discus and Shot Congratulations to junior Hayden Reed who brought home gold medals in both the discus (throw 186-3) and the shot (62-8) from the state track meet in Austin. Way to go, Hayden!

Southeast Texas Ford Dealers All-Star Classic Football Game On Saturday, June 11, Zack Sonnier and the LCM Honey Bear Drill Team will participate in the second annual Southeast Texas Ford Dealers All Star Classic at 7 p.m. at Lamar University's Provost/Umphrey Stadium. The game will feature All-Star players from 40 Southeast Texas high schools. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Congratulations to Zack and the Honey Bears!

Newly Licensed Cosemetologists Congratulations to Madison Fuller, Lindsey Athur and Jesi Kirkland for passing all state board Cosmetology exams. They are now licensed cosmetologists in the state of Texas. After graduation, Madison will be working for Ulta Salon (in the mall), Lindsey will be working at a local salon in Orange, and Jesi plans on continuing her education at Lamar to become an instructor. Way to go!

Baseball Team Advances On Wednesday, May 4, the Varsity Baseball team defeated the Baytown Lee Ganders 2-0 in the bi-district round of the playoffs in a winner-take-all one-game series. Kody Smith dominated on the mound all night long tossing a complete game shutout, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 7. Alex Blem and Zach Droulliard provided all the offense the Bears needed with back-to-back solo homeruns in the bottom of the second inning. Ryan Waddell and James Swann led an outstanding defensive game by the entire team. The baseball team now advances to next week’s area round of the playoffs where they will take on the winner of New Caney and Montgomery. Way to go, Bears!

Track Team Competes at Regionals At the 4A Regional track meet at Sam Houston on Monday and Tuesday, May 2 and 3, Hayden Reed finished 1st in the shot put with a throw of 60’6” and 1st in the disc with 178'7" (beating the competition by 20 feet). He will be headed to state next week. Alex Sezer finished 3rd in the 200 running a 21.8 and finished 3rd in the 100 running a 10.849. Sezer, the only sophomore in the finals, missed out on going to state in the 100 by less then .001 seconds. UPDATE: Alex Sezar received a Wild Card spot in the State Meet May 13.  Because the UT track has nine lanes, the third place fastest time of the four regions receive the wild card spot.  Sezar qualified in the 100 and 200. Payton Burns finished 8th in the 800 running a 2:21 and finished 9th in the 3200 running a 12:05. Zoe Casteel vaulted at regionals her personal best of 9 ft. The 4x100 team of Tevvin Jones, Mark Sanders, Aldric Jones, and Stanley Farrar finished 12 out of 24 teams. Congratulations! Good luck, Hayden and Alex!

Softball Team Advances to Round 2 Congratulations to the Lady Bear Softball Team for defeating Baytown Lee in a 2 out of 3 play-off series and advancing to Round 2 in the play-offs. The Lady Bears scored 20 runs in two games and only gave up 5 to Baytown Lee. All of the team played impressively. Standouts included Raven Cole with outstanding pitching and hitting, Kassie James and Ashleigh Jones with outstanding series at the plate as well as in the field, and Kayleigh Roy as a solid short stop went 2 for 3 in the second game. The Lady Bears will play either Huntsville or Houston Stratford in the second round at Atascocita High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6. Saturday's game, if necessary, will be announced. Good job and keep up the hard work.

Girls Basketball Academic All-State Team Announced Congratulations to the following senior basketball girls for being named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Academic All-State Team. Kalyn Harkness, Lauren Martin, Michele Rigsby, and Shelbi Tucker all qualified for this honor by maintaining a 94 average over 7 semesters of high school. Congratulations to these student athletes for their excellence both on the court and in the classroom.

Baseball Team Wins 11-1 and 7-4  On Friday, April 15, the varsity baseball team defeated the Central Jaguars 11-1. James Swann got the win on the mound, with Dyllon Young and Dyllon Sanford both pitching well in relief. James Swann led the offense with a double, a triple, and 3 RBI's. Kevin Adams had 2 hits, a double and 3 RBI's. Ryan Carline and Scott Vaughn each had a double, and Jonathen Allen had 2 hits. Then on Saturday, April 16, the team traveled to Vidor. (With a win, the Bears could clinch a playoff spot and maintain sole possession of second place.) The whole team stepped up and defeated the Pirates 7-4. Reid Fults started the game on the mound and worked 4 1/3 great innings. Kody Smith picked up the win working the final 2 2/3 innings allowing no runs and striking out 4. The offense was a real team effort. Hunter Gonzales had 2 hits, a double and an RBI. James Swann had 2 hits. Ryan Waddell had a 2 RBI double, and all nine starters reached base. Zach Droulliard had the biggest blow of the day. With the game tied at 4 in the 7th inning Droulliard hit a monster bomb over the centerfield wall to give the Bears the lead for good and send the Bears into the post season. The baseball team hosts PNG on Tuesday, April 19, in a big district showdown with a district championship still winning reach. Congratulations, Bears!

Dickerson wins Lutcher Stark Reading Contest  At the 107th Miriam Lutcher Stark Reading Contest County Finals held Sunday, April 17, at the Lutcher Theater, Jessica Dickerson placed first in Declamation, winning a $5,000 scholarship . Emily Dodd represented LCM in interpretive Reading. Congratulations to both young ladies for a job well done.

Girls Track District Meet Results Congratulations to the Girls Track Team for competing at the District Meet.  Payton Burns received 1st in the 3200 and 3rd in the 800.  Zoe Casteel received 3rd in pole vault.  In 4X200 the team of Megan Issaces, Macie Bell, Josie West, and Maya Smith received 5th.  Maya Smith received 4th in the High Jump.  Megan Romero received 6th in High Jump while Destiny Arteaga received 5th in the 100m Hurdles.  Megan Issacs, Kelsey Crowe, Emily Hughes, Payton Burns, running a 4:17 dropped their total  28 seconds over the course of the seson in the 4x4. Good luck to Peyton Burns and Zoe Casteel at Regionals.

Band Receives Superiors The LCM Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble competed in the UIL Region 10 Concert and Sight Reading Contest April 14 and 15 at Nederland. The Symphonic Band scored its highest rating in 6 years, receiving a Superior on stage and a Superior in sight reading.  The Wind Ensemble scored its highest rating in 3 years, receiving a Sweepstakes rating--All superiors on stage and all superiors in sight reading!  The Wind Ensemble will now make a recording to compete for State 4A Honor Band. Congratulations!

UIL One-Act Play "The Marriage of Bette and Boo"UIL One-Act Play Public Performance  On Saturday, April 9, the UIL One-Act Play "The Marriage of Bette and Boo" cast and crew competed in the Area round of competition in Houston. The group brought home several individual awards including “Best Technician” – Cullen Maglothin, “Honorable Mention All-Star Cast” – Saber Brasher and Jessi Hyder, and “All-Star Cast” – Emily Dodd. Although the group did not advance to the Regional round, they finished the year strong. They will present the show at the high school auditorium on Thursday and Friday, April 21 and 22, at 7:30PM. Congratulations, Bear Stage Players!

Lady Bear Softball Team Wins 13-1 Congratulations to the Lady Bear Softball team, which RUN-RULED the PNG Indians 13-1 in 6 innings on Tuesday, April 12. Camrie Helm ended the game with a walk off 3-run homer over the leftfield fence. At the plate, Ashleigh Jones went 2 for 4, Madison Cole went 4 for 4, Loni Prouse went 2 for 4, and Michele Rigsby went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles.  The Lady Bears are tied for second place with Livingston and Nederland. On Friday, April 15, they will travel to Livingston, and on Tuesday, April 19, they play their final game at home against Nederland.  The girls need your support and noise at the last game so make plans to attend. Coach Adkins still has T-shirts for sale in room B-12 so come by and pick one up.

Bear Baseball Team Wins 11-0 On Tuesday, April 12, the Varsity Baseball team defeated Ozen 11-0. Reid Fults dominated all night long throwing a complete game, 5 innings, allowing no hits and needing just 53 pitches. Hunter Gonzales delived the biggest blow at the plate with a 4th inning grand slam. Ryan Carline also had a homerun in the 4th inning. The Bears next action is Friday, April 15, at Ozen. On Saturday, April 16, they travel to Vidor to take on the Pirates. Congratulations, Bears!

Cosmetology Places 1st Congratulations to Lindsey Arthur for placing first at the SkillsUSA Cosmetology Contest in Corpus Christi. Way to go, Lindsey!

District Champs Advance to RegionalsGirls Golf Team Wins District Congratulations to the girls golf team for capturing the district championship! The team will now advance to regionals. Junior Brooke Brasseaux won the second medalist and senior Katelyn Defrates was fifth medalist. Jacob Belcher was the third place medalist and is also going to regionals. Boys All-District Soccer Team Named Congratulations to four Bear soccer players, who had their strong seasons recognized when the coaches picked the District 38-4A All-District teams.  Garhett Bonneaux was selected as the district's Top Midfielder of the Year.  Mitchell Heil and Zachary Blanchard earned first team selections.  Adam Garza was named to the second team.  Bonneaux's selection marked the fourth consecutive year that he was selected to the All-District team. Way to go, Bears!

District Track & Field Results  Congratulations to Hayden Reed, who placed 1st in both the shot and discus at the 20-4A Track Meet on Monday, April 11. Reed threw 175-5 in the disc and 63-5 in the shot. Congratulations to Payton Burns, who won the 3200 by 19 seconds. Congratulations to Alex Sezar, who placed first in the 200 and second in the 100 of the running preliminaries.The running finals are Wednesday, April 13. Way to go, Bears!

Bear Baseball Wins 6-2 Congratulations to the Bear Baseball team which defeated Lumberton 6-2 on Friday, April 8. Kody Smith got the win on the mound.  James Swan led LCM with 3 hits while Ryan Waddell and Kevin Adams had two hits each. Way to go, Bears!

Texas Relays Results Congratulations to junior Hayden Reed, who won the discus at the Texas Relays in Austin Friday, April 8, with a personal best throw of 178-6, winning the event by 5 feet.  On Saturday, April 9, he threw the shot 61-8 to finish third. Congratulations also to sprinter Alex Sezer, who made it to the finals in the 100 and finished seventh at 11.06. Way to go, Bears!

Student Council wins State Parliamentarian Position  Congratulations to the LCM High School Student Council, which campaigned and won to be the Texas Association of Student Councils Parliamentarian School for 2011-2012 at the 75th annual TASC State Convention in Arlington, Texas.  LCM ran using the Erase the R-Word platform inspired by the October signing of Rosa’s Law that removes the words “retarded” and “mental retardation” from all federal legislation. During the combined campaign time, the LCM students spoke with and gathered over 2,000 R-Word pledges! A 7-minute skit (mini musical) was presented. Brock Duhon, assisted by Dustin Ducharme and Clyde Jones, presented round table discussion workshops (in conjuction with Joel Maxwell from the Special Olympics Meet in the Middle office in Ft. Worth) featuring the 2010 LCM High School Bear Bowl. The Bear Bowl was selected by TASC as a Top Ten 2010-2011 project!  Zack Sonnier, Clyde Jones, and Dustin Ducharme accepted the award.
Student Council - State ParliamentariansAs the Parliamentarian School for 2011-2012, LCM will sit on the TASC Board of Directors next year.  In June, they will attend a leadership retreat where one or more of the campaign platforms will be examined and possibly selected to be the State Project for next year.  Hopefully, it will be the R-Word!  Congratulations!

Stacy Haley - 10-11 HS Teacher of the YearMs. Stacy Haley Named 2010-2011 High School Teacher of the Year  Congratulations to Ms. Stacy Haley, who was chosen as this year's High School Teacher of the Year. Ms. Haley, a graduate of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Lamar University in 1987. She has worked within the district since January 2003 and has taught applied English at the high school for the past seven years.  “My hope is that my classroom creates an atmosphere of academic achievement and personal responsibility as we learn and grow together,” states Ms. Haley. Lady Bear Golf Leads 1st Round in District Tournament After the first round of district play, the LCM Lady Bears golf team leads the district tournament by 10 points with a score of 381. Brooke Brasseaux is currently second with an 82 while Kailey Rountree shot 94; Katelyn Defrates, 96; Hayley Robinson, 109; and Sterling Miller, 131. The final round of district play continues on Thursday, April 7, at Bayou Din.

Choir Earns SuperiorChoir Earns Superior Trophy On Wednesday, April 6, the LCM Choir attended the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest at Sterling High School in Baytown. The choir brought home a Superior trophy for its performance on stage and an Excellent rating in Sight-Reading. Congratulations to these students on a job well done!




Girls All-District Soccer Team Named Congratulations to the following LCM players who made the Girls All-District soccer team: Mallarie Hearn - Utility Player of the Year for the district,  Hannah Gray, Allie Guzman, and Emily Hughes - first team;  Amy Chen, Kourtney Derouen, and Constantina Hug - second team; Maritza Ibarra, Lemlem Faske, and Lauren Martin - honorable mention. The Lady Bears set a school record for district wins, going 11-3 (the best in over 8 years), and advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the second straight year. This team sport could not be successful without everyone doing her part! Congratulations to the entire team. 

Lady Bear Softball Team Wins 16-0 Congratulations to the Lady Bear Softball team for improving to 7-3 in the district after defeating the Central Lady Jaguars 16-0 in three innings on Tuesday, April 5. Hope Russell struck out 6 without allowing a hit. Kelcie Breshears went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and a double, Kayleigh Roy was 1-for-3 with a triple, Kassie James and Alex Hackett both were 1-for-2 while Morgan Babineaux was 1-for-3. Congratulations, Lady Bears!

Tennis District ChampsTennis Players Win District and Advance to Regionals Congratulations to Megan Frey and Chelsey Art for placing 1st in district competition in the Girls' Doubles division at the Varsity District Tennis Tournament on Tuesday, April 5. 
 Congratulations to Chris Stacey for placing 1st in the Boys' Singles division. 
 They will now compete at Regionals on April 18 in Willis.

Cosmetology Students Compete at State Congratulations to the cosmetology students who participated in Corpus Christi for their state contest. Meagan Phillips, Sarah Folks, Madison Fuller, Shelby Moore, Jesi Kirkland, and Yessica Lopez brought home 1st place. Jacie Viator, Whitney Freese, and Tarrah Premeaux all received second place for their projects. Kaleigh Bonnin, Teri Duhon, and Kristyn Trahan received State Superior for their project and also received a trophy. Way to go, Bears!

Bands Compete at Winter Park, Colorado On Friday, April 1, the LCM Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble competed in the Winter Park Colorado Music Festival. The competition included bands from all over the United States. The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble received Superior ratings, and the Jazz Ensemble was rated Outstanding. In addition, the LCM Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble were both named "Best in Class," prevailing against other 4A level schools. LCM Wind Ensemble was named Runner-up for Best in Class in 4A Varsity. Congratulations to the LCM Bands for these National Awards.

Bear Baseball Wins Again On Friday, April 1, the Varsity Baseball Team took on the Livingston Lions, with both teams tied for first place tie for the district lead. The Bears pounded out 14 hits enroute to a 8-4 victory. Kody Smith picked up the win on the mound working 3 2/3 innings and striking out 8.  Reid Fults picked up the save working the final 3 1/3 innings and allowing just 1 earned run.  The offense was lead by Hunter Gonzales who reached base all 4 times he batted including 3 hits with 2-run homer and a double.  Ryan Waddell and Zach Droulliard each had 2 run homeruns as well.  Scott Vaughn, James Swann and Jonathen Allen each had 2 hits.
Then on Saturday, April 2, the Bears got in a little extra work, taking on Hamshire-Fannett in a non-district game.  The Bears' bats stayed hot and led the way to a 12-1 victory. James Swann, Dylon Young, and Hunter Gonzales each threw well for the Bears on the mound, allowing a combined 1 run on just 2 hits. Brandon Humphrey had a grand slam, Ryan Waddell had 2-run homer, and Scott Vaughn and Kevin Adams each had a double. On Tuesday, April 5, the Bears fell to Nederland in a 7-0 loss. The Bears are now 5-2 in district. 

Speech & Debate Students Win At the District UIL meet on Saturday, April 2, Patrick Taggart took 1st place in Lincoln-Douglas (LD) Debate and Dylan Dewit took 4th place. Patrick will proceed to Regionals and Dylan is the alternate for LD.
In informative speaking, Zac Blanchard took 1st place and Jace Bagwell took 5th place. In persuasive speaking, Patrick Taggart took 1st place. Zac and Patrick will represent the district in those two events at Regionals. In addition to these awards, the LCM Speech team took the 1st Place Speech Team plaque for District 20-4A for the 3rd year in a row. Way to go, Bears!

Zack SonnierSonnier Selected for All-Star Football Game Senior Zack Sonnier has been selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star football game on July 26 at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas.  Zack is the all-time leading receiver in Little Cypress-Mauriceville history and is the first Bear ever to be selected to play in the THSCA All-Star game. Girls DivisionPayton Burns - 3,200 meters – 2nd place in the 3,200 meters (12:34.81) and 1st place in the 800 meters (2:28.52). Destiny Arteaga – 1st place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.59). LCM Relay Team – 3rd place in the 1,600-meter relay (4:19.78)
Boys Division - Hayden Reed – 1st place in Discus (163-8 1/2 ) and 1st place in Shot put (60-11 ½). Daniel Harrison – 2nd place in High Jump (6-0) and 3rd place in Triple Jump (40-11 ½). Lady Bear Softball wins 15-1 On Tuesday, March 29, the Lady Bear Softball team defeated Lumberton 15-1 in 5 innings. LCM is now 5-3. Way to go, Lady Bears!

One-Act Play AdvancesUIL One-Act Play Advances to Second Round On Saturday, March 26, the UIL One-Act Play team competed in their second round of competition. "The Marriage of Bette and Boo" came out on top again as the District 20-4A Advancer! Earning individual awards were Matthew Roe - "Best Tech," Aaron Alford - "Honorable Mention All-Star Cast," and Kristin Yokum and Bailey Gilbeaux - "All-Star Cast." The group's next contest will be on Saturday, April 9, at Atascocita High School in Houston. Way to go, Bear Stage Players!

Lady Bear Soccer Team Advances in Playoffs Congratulations to the Lady Bear Soccer Team for defeating Hardin-Jefferson 2-0 on Friday, March 25, in the first round of playoffs. The Lady Bears have advanced to the 2nd round and will be playing Brenham on Monday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Humble at the Charles Street Stadium. Lauren Martin and Emily Hughes made the two scores in Friday's game. Other Lady Bear team members include Maritza Ibarra, Mallarie Hearn, Haylea Hearn, Kyana Petersen, Katie Labry, Kourtney Derouen, Katie Davis, Arreal Hayes, and Allison Coca for defense; Amy Chen, Hannah Gray, Allie Guzman, Estrella Delafuente, Nancy Delafuente, Blayne Fountain, Kendall Calhoun, and Harlie Sorge for the middle; and Constantina Hug, Kalyn Harkness, Alicia Jones, Lemlem Faske, and Harley Rayburn as forwards. Becky Davis and Emily Dalfrey serve as the wonderful managers. Varsity Baseball Unbeaten in District On Friday, March 25, the Varsity baseball team remained unbeaten in district by defeating the Vidor Pirates 6-3. Kody Smith picked up the win on the mound going 4 1/3 innings and striking out 9. Ryan Carline got the save getting the Bears out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th inning and then cruising through the 6th and 7th innings. The offense was lead by Zach Droulliard and Alex Blem. Droulliard finished the game with a double, a homerun, and 2 RBI's; Alex Blem delivered the biggest blow of the night with a 3 run homer in the 3rd inning to give the Bears the lead 4-3.
Then on Saturday, March 26, the Bears got in a little extra work traveling to Hamshire-Fannett for a non-district game. The Bears really brought their offense with them in this one coming out on top by a score of 17-9. On the mound Dyllon Young, James Swann, and Dyllon Sanford all threw well for the Bears. Three sophomores led the offense--Brandon Humphrey had a 3-run homerun, Shea Richards had a grand slam, and James Swann had 3 hits, a double, 3 RBI's and scored 2 runs. The baseball team will travel to PNG on Tuesday, March 29, to take on the Indians at 7:00 p.m. in a big district 20-4A showdown. Way to go, Bears!

Brasseaux WinsBrasseaux Wins Golf Tournament  Lady Bear junior Brooke Brasseaux won the Longview Pine-Tree Invitational Golf Tournament with a score of 79-86 for a two day total of 165. Other Lady Bear Golfers were Katelyn Defrates 108-97 (205), Kailey Rountree 122-116 (238), and Hayley Robinson 116-121 (237). The Lady Bears host the Twentieth Annual Lady Bear Golf tournament at Sunset Grove C.C. on Monday, March 28.



Bear Iron @ StateBear Iron State Results Congratulations to Raven Cole, who finished 2nd in the 220 weight class at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association State Meet on March 14, and to Cameron Allen, who finished 3rd in the 275 weight class, and Nick Dockens, who finished 7th in the 148 weight class, at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet on March 26. Raven had a total score of 1030 (BWT = 201.8, squat = 420, bench press = 195, and dead lift = 114). Cameron had a total score of 1700 (BWT = 269.2, squat = 665, bench press = 425, and dead lift = 610). Girls' Track Team Success Congratulations to Emalee Carlton - 5th in Shot Put with a throw of 31' 2,5", Maya Smith - 3rd in High Jump with a jump of 5'2", Payton Burns - 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.44, Destiny Arteaga - 4th in 100m hurdles with a time of 17.89, Kelsey Crowe - 4th in the 400m with a time of 64.46, and Megan Isaacs, Kelsey Crowe, Savannah Smith, and Payton Burns in the 1600m relay. Way to go, Lady Bears!

Boys' Track Team Success The Varsity Boys finished 2nd out of 13 teams at the Silsbee Relays on Thursday, March 24. Hayden Reed won 1st in both the shot and discus and set a new record for the Silsbee Relays in the shot with a throw of 63 feet 6 inches.
The 4x200 team of Alex Sezer, Aldric Jones, Tevvin Jones, and Stanley Farrar won 1st and also set a new school record of 1:30.03 in the race. The same group of guys also finished 3rd in the 4x1.
Alex Sezer captured 1st in the 100 meter dash, Stanley Farrar finished 3rd in the 200, Daniel Harrison finished 3rd in the high jump, Austin Lopez finished 3rd in the 400 meter dash, and Kyle Herfurth finished 5th in the 400 Meter Dash.
 The Junior Varsity track team also finished 2nd out of 10 teams. The 4x1 team of Trent Manuel, Taylor Peveto, Anthoney Duran, and R.T. Arnaud won 1st, the 4x2 team of Trent Manuel, Taylor Peveto, Freddy De La Fuente, and R.T. Arnaud won 1st, and the 4x4 team of Taylor Peveto, Tommy Brzezinski, Jalen Griffen, and Coleton Boudreaux got 2nd. This week's track meet is at LCM on Friday, April 1.

UIL One-Act PlayUIL One-Act Play Advances On Tuesday, March 22, the LCM UIL One-Act Play team advanced from their first round of competition. LCM brought home 11 individual awards: Iris Natividad was selected as "Best Tech." Every member of the cast of "The Marriage of Bette and Boo" was selected for outstanding performance. Receiving Honorable Mention All-Star Cast awards were Nate Clark, Bailey Gilbeaux, Trevier Gonzalez, and Andrew Borel. Receiving All-Star Cast awards were Saber Brasher, Jessi Hyder, Kristin Yokum, and Paul Daleo. Out of the four participating schools, one outstanding male and female performer are name Best Actor and Best Actress. LCM's Emily Dodd won Best Actress and Aaron Alford won Best Actor. The next round of competition will start at 1 pm on Saturday, March 26, at Lamar-Port Arthur. Come support the Bear Stage Players! Way to go, Bears!


Varsity Baseball Claims 1st Place! On Tuesday, March 22, the varsity baseball team claimed sole possession of 1st place by defeating the Central Jaguars 12-0.  James Swann got the win on the mound working 3 innings and striking out 6.  Reid Fults and Dylon Young threw the final two innings for the Bears first no-hitter of the season.  Zach Droulliard lead the offense with 2 hits, a homerun, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's.  Jonathan Allen had 2 hits, Ryan Waddell had 2 hits, Ryan Carline had 2 hits including a double, and Brandon Humphrey had a home run.  The Bears next action will be Friday night, March 25, versus Vidor here at LCM at 7:00 pm. The offense was lead by Ryan Waddell, who reached base all 4 times he batted. Kevin Adams had 3 RBIs, Jonathan Allen had a triple, and Scott Vaughn added a double and scored 2 runs. 2010 Mr. Honey ContestantsMr. Honey Bear Pageant Congratulations to Christian Harley for winning the Mr. Honey Pageant sponored by Project Safe Graduation on Sunday, March 20. Boys Soccer vs. PNG On Friday, March 18, the boys soccer team entered the final game of the season in a three-way tie for 3rd place. The Bears hosted the 2nd place Port Neches-Groves Indians and ended the season with a 3-0 loss, ending their chance at playoffs. During the season, the Bears lost 6 of their top 13 players to injuries and adversity. Although Coach Watzlavik enjoyed success by constantly juggling his lineup, playing without a fully healthy team finally caught up with the Bears against a strong Indian team. The game was also Senior Night for the Bears. Seniors Zack Blanchard, Garhett Bonneaux, Harley Cobb, Tanner Crow, Adam Garza, Christian Harley, Mitchell Heil, Tommy Jones, and Jordan King were recognized prior to their final home game for LCM.

Varsity Baseball Defeats Lumberton On Wednesday, March 16, the varsity baseball team opened the district season by defeating the Lumberton Raiders 6-3. Kody Smith pitched a complete game and struck out 15 batters. Zach Droullaird led the offense with 2 doubles, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI. Ryan Carline hit a home run over the left field wall while James Swann and Ryan Waddell both had good nights at the plate as well. The Bears will travel to Ozen Friday, March 18, to take on the 1 and 0 Panthers, with the winner sitting atop the district standings after the first week.

Boys Soccer Team Defeats Ozen  Needing a win to keep control of their playoff hopes, the LCM Bears soccer defeated the Ozen Panthers 3-1 in Beaumont Stadium on Tuesday, March 15.  Daniel Delafuente scored two goals while Yohannes Dundon added one.  Garhett Bonneaux, Collin Foster, and Mitchell Heil each earned an assist for the Bears. Way to go, Bears!

Vocal Solo & Ensemble Results On Saturday, March 5, the High School Choir attended the U.I.L. Vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest at Lee High School in Baytown. Nineteen students were able to attend bringing home 14 Superior ratings and 5 Excellent. Eleven of the students making a superior rating qualified to go to State.

Battlin' Bear Speech & Debate Squad  The Little Cypress Battlin' Bears Speech and Debate Squad attended the Sabine Pass tournament on Saturday, March 5. Congratulations to Dylan Dewit, who took 3rd place in LD Debate and 2nd place in Persuasive Speaking, Kara Stanford, 2nd place in Informative Speaking, and Jace Bagwell, 4th place in Persuasive Speaking.

Bear Iron QualifiersPowerlifters Headed to State The boys and the girls powerlifting teams competed at their regional meets over spring break. Both teams finished a point from 3rd place, but 4 lifters managed to qualify for the state meet. Those were Seniors Cameron Allen and Nick Dockens, Junior Maygan Crosslin, and Sophomore Raven Cole. Freshman Simone Mullins and Sophomore Coleton Boudreaux both finished one lift away from qualifying for state. Coleton Boudreaux finished as the 4th place medalist in his weight class, Nick Dockens came in 2nd place, and Cameron Allen, Maygan Crosslin, and Raven Cole finished 1st and are all Region 4 Champions. Good luck to these lifters as they go on to represent our school and the region at the State Meet.

Lady Bear Soccer Success over Spring Break Congratulations to the Lady Bear Soccer Team for winning all three games played over spring break. 
 The Lady Bears first defeated Bridge City 6-0. Goals were scored by Mallarie Hearn, Maritza Ibarra, Kalyn Harkness and Lauren Martin each scored 1 goal while Emily Hughes made 2 goals. Assists were made by Emily Hughes, Martiza Ibarra, and Lauren Martin
 On Monday, March 7, the Lady Bears played an exciting game against Vidor and beat them 3-2 in overtime. Mallarie Hearn scored all goals for the game with assists made by Emily Hughes. Great efforts made by goalie Maritza Ibarra as well. The team played hard and won by pure determination. 
 On Tuesday, March 8, the Lady Bears defeated Central 4-0. Blayne Fountain scored 1 goal while Emily Hughes made 3. Assists were made by Amy Chen, Hannah Gray and Mallarie Hearn.
The other team members that stood out included Nancy Delafuente, Estrella Delafuente, Constantina Hug, Alicia Jones, Kendall Calhoun, Kourtney Derouen, Katie Davis, Mallarie Hearn, Haylea Hearn, Kyana Petersen, Allie Guzman, Katie Labry, Arreal Hayes, Allison Coca and Lemlem Faske. The team members all play together and win together. 
 The Lady Bears are now 10 and 2 in district play falling into second place. Senior night is Tuesday, March 15, with games starting at 4:30. Way to go, Lady Bears.

Bear Baseball at New Caney Tournament At the New Caney Tournament, on Thursday, March 10, the LCM Bears defeated New Caney Porter 13-4 but fell to Caney Creek 6-2. On Friday, March 11, they toppled Kingwood Park 7-3 but fell to New Caney 7-5.

Lady Bear Softball now 2-0 in District  Congratulations to the Lady Bears for defeating the Ozen Lady Panthers 2-0 on Friday, March 11. Raven Cole struck out 17 Ozen Lady Panthers. In the 1st inning LCM’s leadoff hitter, Ashleigh Jones tripled into left field enabling the next batter Madi Cole to plate Jones making it 1-0. In the 3rd inning, Alexis Newton reached second on an error, was moved over to third with a Kayleigh Roy sacrifice bunt, and then scored on a sharp grounder to third base as Jones was forced at first. LCM is 2-0 in district play. Way to go, Lady Bears!

Boys Soccer Falls 1-0 Battling for sole possession of third place in the district, the LCM Bears boys soccer team suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Vidor Pirates on Friday, March 11. The loss moves the Bears into fourth place with two games remaining. The Bears travel to Beaumont on Tuesday, March 15, to face the Ozen Panthers. On Friday, March 18, the Bears face the Port Neches-Groves Indians. Good luck, Bears!

Lady Bear Softball Wins 10-0 The Lady Bears hit, ran, slid and scored while taking apart Lumberton 10-0 in the district opener on Tuesday, March 8.  Camrie Helm pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out 10 in the win. Congratulations, Lady Bears!

Boys Soccer Wins 2-1 Against Central Zachary Blanchard's header off a corner kick from Garhett Bonneaux propelled the LCM Bears boys soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Central Jaguars Tuesday, March 8, in Beaumont with three minutes remaining in the game. At the beginning of the second half, Jordan King drove the ball down the left side of the field and centered the ball to Bonneaux, who booted the ball past the goalie for a score. Defenders Zachary Blanchard, Harley Cobb, and Erik Tutt were critical in keeping the Jaguars from scoring. Keeper Adam Garza made several saves. Other Bears with strong performances were Mitchell Heil, Tanner Crow, Daniel Delafuente, Ceasar Coca, and Yohannes Dundon. Congratulations, Bears!

Softball Team Competes at the A&M Consolidated Tournament 10th ranked LCM Lady Bears went 2-0 the first day of the A&M Consolidated tournament. After getting a win by forfeit against Austin Crocket, pitcher Raven Cole struck out 11 Victoria East Titans and gave up 2 hits on the night. Taylor Fraccastoro running for Raven Cole scored in the 4th. In the 6th inning Loni Prouse roped a double in right center field, two batters later Ashleigh Jones got a single moving Prouse to 3rd. Next batter Madison Cole had a solid single to right center to plate Prouse. In the 8th inning, Michele Rigsby was placed at second and with two outs, Ashleigh Jones got the game winning RBI with a shot up the middle. Leading hitters for the Bears were Ashleigh Jones 3-4, Madison Cole 2-4, and Loni Prouse 1-4. Outstanding defensive plays were made by Morgan Babineaux, Kassie James, and Madison Cole--all 3 girls had game saving plays to stop the Titans from scoring. Congratulations, Lady Bears!

Track Success at Pirate Relays Congratulations to the LCM Track Team for their success at the Vidor Pirate Relays:
Hayden Reed won the shot put with 61 feet, 9 inches and won the discus with 163.2 Daniel Harrison won both the long jump (19-4) and the high jump (6-0). LCM won the 400-meter relay (42.91) and the 800-meter relay (1:34.07). Alex Sezar won the 100 meters (10.83). Herfurth placed 3rd in the 400 meters (54.63). Farrar placed 2nd in the 200 meters (22.80). LCM placed 2nd in the 1,600-meter relay (3:43.0).
The Lady Bears won the 1,600-meter relay in 4:31:45. Carlton got 3rd in the shot put (29-2). Payton Burns got 2nd in the 3,200 meters (12:57.80). Way to go, Bears!

Boys Soccer Wins 6-1 The LCM Bears boys soccer team defeated the Bridge City Cardinals 6-1 Friday, March 4, at the Battlin' Bear Stadium. Tanner Crow, Yohannes Dundon, Jordan King, Garhett Bonneaux, Daniel Delafuente, and Nathaniel Moody each scored a goal for the Bears. Dundon, Bonneaux, and Mitchell Heil each earned an assist. The Bears scored three goals in the first ten minutes. On Tuesday, March 8, the Bears travel to Beaumont to face the Central Jaguars. Congratulations, Bears!

All-District Boys Basketball Team Named Congratulations to the following boys basketball players for being named to the District 20-4A all-district team: Seniors Christian Harley and Hunter Gonzales were named on the 1st Team while Junior Preston Armstrong was named to the 2nd Team. Way to go, Bears!

LCM Tennis Success Congratulations to the LCM Tennis Team on its recent successes. Senior doubles team Brooke Kyles and Jessica Dickerson placed 2nd at the Beaumont Municipal Tournament. Senior Chris Stavcey placed 2nd in the singles' division at the Vidor Invitational, junior Brandi Manuel placed 1st in the singles' "A" division, and junior Erin Tutt won 1st in the singles' "B" division. Freshman Constantina Hug won the 9th grade Consolation bracket in the Beaumont Municipal tournament. Way to go, Bears!

LCM Softball now 5-2  The LCM softball team is now 5-2 for the year after beating the Bridge City Cardinals 8-0 on Friday, February 25. Camrie Helm got the win on the mound giving up 3 hits and striking out 5. Leading hitters for the Lady Bears were Ashleigh Jones (3-4, 3 runs scored), Madison Cole (2-4, 2 runs scored), Camrie Helm (2-3), and Michele Rigsby (1-1). The Lady Bears welcomed back Senior shortstop Michele Rigsby and Junior 2B Loni Prouse back to the team as both ladies had been out since the start of the season due to injury. Congratulations, Lady Bears!

Girls Soccer now 7-1 in District The LCM girls soccer team beat Hamshire-Fannett 2-0 on Friday, February 25.  Lauren Martin and Constantina Hug each scored a goal with assists by Hannah Gray. Goalie Kalyn Harkness led the defense with several great saves. Other members of the defense--Allie Guzman, Kourtney Derouen, Allison Coca, Arre'al Hayes, Katie Davis, Katie LaBry, Kyana Petersen and Haylea Hearn--all contribued to the win. Amy Chen, Kendall Calhoun, and Blayne Fountain led the middle while Alicia Jones, Mallarie Hearn, Lemlem Faske, and Estrella Delafuente covered the forward positions. The Lady Bears are now 7 and 1 in district play. They play Nederland next at home. Way to go, Lady Bears!
 
Bear Baseball Wins  Don Gibbens Tournament Congratulations to the LCM Bears for winning the Don Gibbens Tournament at LCM High School. 
 On Thursday, February 24, they beat the Vista Ridge Rangers 13-1 on the first day of the tournament. Shortstop Ryan Waddell went 3-for-4, scored twice, and drove in a run. Zack Drouilliard was 2-for-2 with a double, scored twice, and plated a run. Brandon Humphrey had a two-run homerun. Alex Blem, Hunter Gonzales, and Ryan Carline scored. Zach Barnwell scored on a wild pitch. Jonathan Allen scored when Brylon Douglas had an RBI single to right. James Swan pitched four innings, allowed just three hits, struck out three, and walked four. 
 On Friday, February 25, LCM defeated the Bridge City Cardinals 6-2. Kevin Adams scored. Ryan Carline and Scott Vaughn each had an RBI. lex Blem had two RBI. The Bears also fell to the Crosby Cougars 9-6.
 On Saturday, February 26, the Bears defeated the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 12-4. Hunter Gonzales had two RBI. James Swan, Kevin Adams, Ryan Waddell, and Alex Blem had RBIs. Zach Drouillard had two RBIs while Swan and Waddell each had homers.
 LCM scored 5 runs in the first and went on to beat Bridge City 16-5 in the Championship Game of the Don Gibbens Tournament. Congratulations, Bears!

JV Softball Team Wins Congratulations to the JV softball team for defeating both Anahuac (17-0) and Orangefield (3-2) in the Orangefield tournament on Friday, February 25. Outstanding play was had by Kaitlin Jones, Shelby LeBouef, Taylor Fraccastoro and Danielle Deramus.  The team goes back to play PNG. Congratulations, Lady Bears!

Lady Bear Golf Team Earns 2nd Congratulations to the Lady Bear Golf Team of Brooke Brasseaux, Katelyn Defrates, Jessica Mugleston, Hayley Ribonsin and Kailey Rountree for capturing second place at the Westbrook Golf Tournament held at Brentwood Country Club. Junior Brooke Brasseaux won the second place. The team will travel to play on the Huntsville golf tournament. Way to go, Lady Bears!

Bears Succeed at Indian Relays  At the Joe Williamson Relays at PNG High School on Thursday, February 24, LCM finished a solid third with 134. Hayden Reed tossed the shot put for 61'6" and won the discus with a throw of 153-11 1/2. Alex Sezar won both the 100-meter dash (11.23) and the 200-meter dash (23.24). Daniel Harrison won the long jump with 20-3 1/2 and was 2nd in the high jump (6-2). Austin Lopez was 3rd in the 400-meter dash (53.64). Stanley Farrar was 2nd in the 200-meter dash (23.86). The Bears won the 400-meter relay (43.48), were 2nd in the 800-meter relay (1:35.91), were 3rd in the Distance Medley Relay (12:57.85), and were 3rd in the 1,600-meter relay (3:45.80). For the girls, Emalie Carlton got 3rd in the shot put with 28-6, Maya Smith got 2nd in the high jump (4-10). Destine Artega got 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles (18.33).

FFA Week Celebrated Each year the National FFA celebrates FFA Week across the country.  Local FFA chapters participate by hosting events on campus for students to promote the FFA, its values, and its cause.  LCM's FFA chapter officers focused on FFA awareness on campus and put together the following events for the week:

Bear Iron Powerlifting at West Brook The Bear Iron Powerlifting Team competed at their final meet of the regular season at Beaumont-West Brook. The meet served as a "Last Qualifier's Meet" with those competing for a final chance to increase their personal best total and qualify for the Region IV Powerlifting Meet. The nine Bears that competed brought home eight medals with Kelly Kaufman finishing 5th and Coleton Boudreaux finishing in 2nd place. Those finishing atop their individual weight classes were Raven Cole, Travis White, Nick Dockens, Mitchell Jennings, and Cameron Allen. Three members of the team--Nick Dockens, Cameron Allen, and Raven Cole--also brought home Outstanding Lifter awards. The boys’ team also out-lifted the competition on the way to winning their third meet of the season. Congratulations!

She works tirelessly to ensure that her students have the very best instruction possible.  She also gives of her time to help provide technical assistance at many sporting events and community events.  She is a wonderful asset to LCM High School.” Ms. Bourque consistently use resources provided by the District and other technology tools to enhance student learning.  Ms. Bourque’s students are provided opportunities for communication and collaboration in their classroom activities. Boys Soccer Wins 6-1 Congratulations to the LCM boys soccer team, which took care of business Friday night, February 19, by defeating Ozen 6 to 1.  Tanner Crow, Garhett Bonneaux, and Nathan Moody each scored two goals while Yohannes Dundon picked up an assist and Garhett Bonneaux picked up two.  The Bears travel to PNG Tuesday night to battle the Indians.

Emily & DanielleJordan & JessicaStark Reading Contest-LCM Finals  On Sunday, February 27, nine students participated in the Stark Reading Contest LCM School Finals.  The finalists in Declamation were Zachary Blanchard, Zoe Casteel, Jessica Dickerson, Gabrielle Johnson, and Jordon King. The four finalists in Interpretive Reading were Ivy Casteel, Danielle Cook, Emily Dodd, and Trevier Gonzales.
In Declamation, Jordan King placed second while Jessica Dickerson won first place.
In Interpretive Reading, Danielle Cook placed second while Emily Dodd won first place.
Emily and Jessica will now compete in the County Finals on Sunday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lutcher Theatre. Congratulations to all who participated in this contest. Good luck to Emily and Jessica!

Girls JV Soccer Team Wins  Congratulations to girls’ JV soccer team for defeating Vidor 2-1.  Kelsie Wesolowski scored both goals. The entire team worked together to hold the Pirates and gain the win.  Nice job, Lady Bear JV.

Girls Varsity Soccer Success Congratulations to the Varsity Lady Bear soccer team. Varsity defeated Vidor 5-2 in an intense game. Constantina Hug scored  1 goal while Mallarie Hearn and Lemlem Faske both scored 2.  Assists were made by Hannah Gray and Kalyn Harkness. Goalie Maritza Ibarra led the defense with added efforts by Allie Guzman, Kourtney Derouen, Haylea Hearn, Kyana Petersen, Katie Davis and Katie LaBry.  Filling the middle for the Lady Bears was Amy Chen and Blayne Fountain. Other contributing forwards were Lauren Martin, Alicia Jones, and Estrella Delafuente. This huge win for the team could only happen with a great team effort. The Lady Bears are now 5 and 0 in district play. Way to go, Lady Bears!

Boys Soccer Wins Congratulations to our Boys soccer team for defeating cross county rival Vidor with a score of 2 to 0. Jordan King and Tanner Crow each scored a goal and Yohannes Dundon and Harley Cob each picked up an assist. Adam Garza picked up a flawless clean sheet in goal, and Zach Blanchard spearheaded a composed, yet aggressive, defense. Way to go, Bears!

Alex Dorman Earns 6th Place in Regional Swim MeetSwimmer Makes LCM History At the regional swim meet on February 7 and 8, senior Alex Dorman had the best meet of his entire high school swim career. While LCM has had a swimmer make 9th place many times over the years, Alex is the first Bear to finish in the top 8 to stand on the podium. Three of the four swimmers made it back the second day for finals, and Alex finished 6th in the 100 yard backstroke.








Softball Team Starts Season with Win The Lady Bears Softball Team defeated Kountze in their season opener 12 to 0.  Raven Cole, the winning pitcher, gave up one hit, walked two, and struck out 11 in 7 innings. Kassie James went 5 for 5 at the plate followed by Alexis Newton, who went 2 for 4, and Demi Sheppard, who went 2 for 4.  Ashleigh Jones, Madison Cole, Kayleigh Roy, and Hope Russell all chipped in hits as well.  The Lady Bears host their tournament Thursday-Saturday, February 17-19, in Beaumont. 

LCM Quiz Bowl Team Earns 4th Place  Congratulations to the LCM Quiz Bowl team, which earned 4th place in the LSCO Cypress Challenge contest on Saturday, February 12. Patrick Taggart, Trey Mathis, Eric Rushing, and Shelby Brown brought home a trophy, and each earned scholarship money to LSCO. Way to go, Bears!

Poetry & ProseStudents Place in Poetry and Prose  On Saturday, February 12, LCM competed at the Port Neches-Groves Academic Tournament in Prose and Poetry. Approximately 40 readers competed through two difficult preliminary rounds to reach the finals. According to Cory Broom, LCM Theater Director, “This is the first time that our students have competed in this event. We practiced diligently and did more than hold our own against some very tough competition.” The Students who placed in the competition are (from left) Emily Dodd - 7th in Prose, Aaron Alford - 4th in Poetry, Saber Brasher - 2nd in Poetry. Congratulations!

Locks of Love  The 6th Annual Locks of Love drive sponsored by Cosmetology and TAFE was a huge success. Over 20 feet of hair was collected for this cause. Students Courtney Will, Maya Smith, and Chelsea Morales as well as employees Evie Switzer and Ronny Curtice donated. Mrs. Levens and her cosmetology students worked hard to make this an annual success!

Both CX Debate Teams go to StateCross-Examination Debate Team Going to State On Saturday, February 12, the team of Alicia Hubbard and Aaron McCoy and the team of Kara Stanford and Kent Morris participated in the 20-4A UIL District Team (CX) debate tournament. They closed out finals, tying for 1st place, both having an undefeated record all the way through the tournament. Lady Bear Basketball Wins The Lady Bear basketball team ended their season on Tuesday, February 8, by defeating the PNG Indians 61-30.  Senior Tiffani Thompson had a double double, scoring a game high 26 points. She also pulled down 10 rebounds and had 3 assists and 2 steals. Senior Kalyn Harkness chipped in 15 points, 3 assists and 5 steals. Payton Burns added 10 points while Lauren Martin and Shelbi Tucker contributed 5 and 4 points, respectively.  Congratulations on a great win.

Congratulations to the Lady Bear soccer for defeating Hamshire-Fannett in their district opener, despite the wind and freezing weather. Maritza Ibarra, Kortney DeRouen, and Allie Guzman led the defense in the 3 to 1 win. Mallarie Hearn led the offense with 2 goals while Blayne Fountain scored 1. Amy Chen, Hannah Gray and Constantina Hug supported the middle. The Lady Bears play Borderland at Borderland on Friday, February 4. Way to go, Lady Bears, in an overall great team effort and great way to start district!

Boys Soccer Team Wins 7-0!  Neither frigid cold weather nor icy cold winds could slow down the red hot LCM boys Bear Soccer team Tuesday night as they rolled to a 7–0 victory over Hamshire-Fannett. Garhett Bonneaux, Mitch Heil, and Jordan King each scored two goals and freshman Daniel De La Fuenta scored one.  The Bear defense, led by Tommy Jones and Adam Garza, led the way to a clean sheet, while Hipo Hernandez and Yohannes Dundon worked in tandem in the defensive midfield to shut the Longhorns down “cold”...no pun intended! The entire Bear team played a good game.  On Friday, February 4, they take on state-ranked Nederland here at Bear Stadium.

Powerlifting Girls TeamBear Iron Powerlifting Team Medals  The Bear Iron Powerlifting Team brought some of its top lifters to compete against 250 of the top lifters in the region at the West Brook Bruin Invitational on Saturday, January 29. Powerlifting Boys - 1st PlaceOf the 12 team members that lifted, 11 medaled. Kelly Kaufman and Travis White finished in 5th place; Coleton Boudreaux came in 4th; Simone Mullins, Cameron Allen, and Zach Thomas finished in 3rd place; and Patrick Herfurth came in 2nd.  In their individual weight classes, Maygan Crosslin won the Girls 165s, Nick Dockens won the Boys 165s, JC Fontenot won the Boys 198s, and Mitchell Jennings won the Boys 220s.
The LCM boys team managed to hold off more than a dozen other schools to finish atop the medal count and bring home a first place trophy for their efforts. Congratulations, Bears!

Houston Rodeo Art Contest Results  Congratulations to the following students whose artwork did well at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo: Jasmine Ruiz got Best of Show and Mirandy Williams got the Gold Medal Award.  Both of their pieces will be on display at the Hayloft Gallery until March, and they are both in contention for their work going into the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo auction. The following students' entries also did well--Sarah St. John - Special Merit Ribbon; Matthew Gaither - Second Place Ribbon; Blake Cassidy - First Place Ribbon; and Sheldon Strother - Second Place Ribbon. Leadership ForumStudents Attend Leadership Forum On Friday, January 28, Sydney Williams, Shelbi Tucker, Preston Armstrong, Hayden Reid, and Jonathan Allen (pictured left to right) were 5 of 132 students from 16 different area high schools who attended the John Ben Shepperd Student Leadership Forum “The Sheppard Edge” on the LIT campus in Beaumont, Texas.  This one-day forum is designed to help youth change their future by becoming more aware of their own leadership style with a greater emphasis on service. Session topics included collaboration, creative leadership, critical thinking, leadership communication, and leadership qualities. The Student Forum offers young people the opportunity to learn leadership, communication, and goal-setting skills, as well as heighten awareness of responsible citizenship.

The girls’ relay team (Swarers, Sheppard, Casteel, and King) earned the silver medal in the 200-yard medley and the girls’ relay team (Swarers, Newman, King, and Casteel) earned the silver medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Way to go, Bears!

Lady Bears Basketball Defeats Nederland!  On Friday, January 21, the Lady Bears beat Nederland 62-43. Kalyn Harkness had 20 pts, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals; Tiffani Thompson added 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals; while Payton Burns added 12 points and 4 steals. Way to go, Lady Bears!

Kemp Makes Super Gold Volleyball Team!  Congratulations to Megan Kemp for being selected to the Beaumont Enterprise Super Gold Volleyball Team.

Lady Bear Basketball Results The Lady Bear Basketball team traded leads back and forth Tuesday, January 18, but came up short against a tough Livingston team. Senior Kalyn Harkness led the Lady Bears with 14 points, including a halftime buzzer beater from 44 feet. Kalyn also added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals, while Tiffani Thompson and Payton Burns added 12 points and 7 rebounds each.

Boys Basketball Results On Tuesday, January 18, the Bears came back from a 16-point deficit to tie the game against Livingston at 50 with 4 seconds left.  But Livingston hit two free throws to steal the win at the Bear Cave 52-50.  Hunter Gonzales led the Bears with 15 points while Aldric Jones added 13. 

Gonzales is Willie Ray Smith Award Finalist!  Congratulations to quarterback Hunter Gonzales, who has been named a Willie Ray Smith Award Offensive Finalist. The banquet is February 16 at the Elegante Hotel in Beaumont. Congratulations, Hunter!

Powerlifting Team Earns 1st Place!  The LCM Powerlifting Team kicked off their 2011 season Thursday night as they hosted West Orange–Stark, Orangefield, and Silsbee. The LCM boys and girls teams both finished with 1st place team trophies. The Bear Iron powerlifting team also swept all four of the Outstanding Lifter Awards with Maygan Crosslin winning on the Girls Light Platform, Raven Cole on the Girls Heavy Platform, Nick Dockens on the Boys Light Platform and JC Fontenot winning on the Boys Heavy Platform. Twenty of the 22 team members medaled with Ryan Burns, Travis White, and Tanner Potter finishing in third place. Second place finishers included Courtney Doyle, Kelly Kaufman, and Tyler Howlett. 
The squad also had 6 boys and 6 girls who won their individual weight classes. Kimmie Vercher, Maggie Lucia, Becky Davis, Maygan Crosslin, Simone Mullins, and Raven Cole all finished in 1st place for the girls while Patrick Herfurth, Nick Dockens, Coleton Boudreaux, JC Fontenot, Mitchell Jennings, and Cameron Allen all finished in 1st place for the boys. 
Coach Reed said, “We have always had tremendous girls teams, but the boys have made strides and are looking just as good this year. We have great lifters in both divisions with the boys being led by Seniors JC Fontenot and Nick Dockens and the girls team by returning Senior Kelly Kaufman, Junior Maygan Crosslin, and Sophomore Raven Cole. I am also very excited about our others young lifters.” 
Raven Cole, whose squatted 465lbs. is currently the best mark set by a girl in any weight class in the state.

Lady Bear Soccer Team Wins  Congratulations to the Lady Bear Soccer Team for defeating Jasper 5 to 1 in their game last night, Tuesday, January 18. The entire team gave great effort, with Allie Guzman and Courtney Derouen leading the defense and Mallarie Hearn leading the offense. Scorers for the night were Mallarie Hearn with a hat trick, Constantina Hug, and Estrella De La Fuente. Assists were made by Mallarie Hearn and Hannah Gray. The girls played well and did a great job!

Varsity Lady Basketball Team Wins  On Friday, January 14, the Lady Bears Varsity Basketball team got the district win over PNG with a score of 58-26. Tiffani Thompson led with 18 points. Payton Burns added a double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 steals. Kalyn Harkness added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Lauren Martin added 8 points and 6 rebounds and Shelbi Tucker led the defensive effort with 6 steals. The Lady Bears next home game will be Friday against Nederland.

JV Lady Bear Basketball Extends Winning Streak  On Tuesday, January 18, the JV Lady Bears improved to 4-4 in district play by capping off a 3-game winning streak in Livingston. The streak started last week in Vidor, when the Lady Bears dismantled the Pirates with Emily Carlton and Kyana Peterson leading the scores. On Friday, a home win against PNG put the streak at 2. Sophomores Kassie James, Maylasia Golden, and Demi Sheppard led the Lady Bears past the Lady Indians with outstanding defensive and offensive play. On Tuesday, the girls took it to Livingston with a spectacular team effort. The Lady Lions took the lead with 30 seconds left. The victory cries went up in the Lion’s Den, only to be silenced by Carly Vela’s 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the game. On Friday, the Lady Bears will take vengeance on  the Lady Bulldogs in the Bear Cave and extend the streak to 4 games!!  Congratulations, Lady Bears!

Stephenson named Texas Assistant Baseball Coach of the Year  Congratulations to LCM's Assistant Baseball Coach Wayne Stephenson, who was named the Assistant Baseball Coach of the Year in Texas at the Annual Baseball Coaching Clinic in Waco on Friday, January 14. Head Baseball Coach Steve Griffith nominated Coach Stephenson after Stephenson kept the Bears going during Griffith's 3-month leave. LCM made the playoffs and defeated our first-round opponent who was seeded higher. Congratulations, Coach Stephenson!

Lady Bear Soccer  Congratulations to the Lady Bear Soccer team for playing hard and doing well at the Brenham tournament this past weekend. The team worked well together and had a tough defense led by Hannah Gray and Maritza Ibarra, while our offense was led by Mallarie Hearn with 4 goals for the weekend.  Other goals were scored by Hannah Gray and Estrella De La Fuente.  The Lady Bears host Jasper tonight, Tuesday, January 18, at the stadium at 6.  Go, Lady Bears!

Chess Tournament Success!  On Saturday, January 15, the LCM Chess Club hosted students from West Orange and Bridge City for a Chess Club Tournament. Congratulations to Michael Lessard, who won the gold medal and a $40 gift card to Game Stop, and to John Foote, who won the silver medal. Next month the Chess Club will travel to Bridge City. Congrats!

Boys Soccer Starts Strong!  Congratulations to the boys varsity soccer team.  On Thursday, January 13, they defeated Summer Creek 4 to 1 in the opening game of the regular season. Garhett Bonneaux scored two goals while Tanner Crow and Mitch Heil each added one. Zach Blanchard, Yohannes Dundon, and Hunter Harbert each picked up an assist.  The Bear defense was BEAST as they were able to lock down a very talented Summer Creek attack. Way to go, Bears!

Boys Basketball Sweeps Vidor  Congratulations to all of the boys basketball teams for sweeping Vidor on Tuesday, January 11. The freshman team won by 35, the JV won by 10, and the varsity won 53-46.  Hunter Gonzales led the way with 18 points, Christian Harley hit 4 three-pointers to score 12 points, and Jaroyas Kirkwood scored 10 for the Bears. The Bear Cave Crazies proved they are the best student section in Southeast Texas. The Bears are now 3-1 in district and play at PNG on Friday, January 14.

UIL Academic Meet Results  Congratulations to Katelyn Peasley for placing 4th overall and 2nd in Biology at the Hamshire-Fannett UIL Academic meet on Saturday, January 8.  Way to go, Katelyn!

Goals were scored by Katie LaBry, Emily Hughes, and Blayne Fountain between the two games. Great defense was played by all and led by Mallarie Hearn, Allie Guzman, and Maritza Ibarra. Debate Team Success The Debate Team had a very successful meet at Hamshire-Fannett on Friday, January 7. Patrick Taggart took 1st place in LD (Lincoln-Douglas) debate and 6th place in Persuasive Speaking.  Kent Morris took 6th place in Informative Speaking.  Jace Bagwell and Dylan Dewit made it to the semifinals in extemporaneous speaking. Congratulations, Bears!

Lady Bear JV Soccer Team Wins Over the January 7-9 weekend, Lady Bear soccer hosted a double header at Bear Stadium.  In Game 1, the JV knocked out Vidor 2-0, with a great job by the defense and a blocked goal by goalie Madison Kay. Goals were scored by Franzi Witte and Rebecca Zuniga to lead the Lady Bears to victory.  In Game 2 verses Lamar Consolidated, Franzi Witte scored two goals while Rebecca Zuniga scored one, with an assist from Alivia Duhon, to allow the Lady Bears to win the game at 3-0.  Congratulations to the Lady Bear JV soccer team!

Boys Varsity Basketball Team Going Strong Congratulations to the LCM Varsity Boys Basketball in their 53-48 win over Beaumont Central on Friday, January 7.  Jaroyas Kirkwood, Kenneth Smith, and Travis Mallett all stepped up with big performances to spark the Bears. The Bears are now 17-6 on the season and 2-1 in district play. Way to go, Bears! They host Vidor in a BIG game Tuesday night, January 11, at the Bear Cave!
On Tuesday, January 4, the Boys Varsity Basketball Team lost a tough overtime battle to Ozen 48-43.  Hunter Gonzales scored 13; Preston Armstrong, 12; and Christian Harley, 11.  LCM is now 16-6 for the season and and 1-1 in district play. 
At the Hardin-Jefferson Marathon over the holidays, LCM defeated Legacy 68-46.  Hunter Gonzales led with 15, Preston Armstrong had 14, while Zack Sonnier scored 11.  They placed 3rd in the Marathon after defeating Tatum 57-43.  All-Tournament selection Hunter Gonzales led the Bears with 24 points. 
At the West Orange-Stark Mustang Gym, the Bears came away with the 54-50 victory. Hunter Gonzales finished with 23 points, Christian Harley added 10, and Zach Sonnier had 7. Congratulations, Bears!
