If you missed Game Three of the Lady Bears vs Barbers Hill, you just might have missed the BEST SOFTBALL game ever played by the LCM Lady Bears! The Bears were up 3 to 1 in the bottom of the 7th with two outs and were 1 pitch away from walking off the field as the winners. The Eagles of Barbers Hill had other thoughts on that and came back to tie it up. The Lady Bears tried to take control again in innings 8 and 9 but fell short. The Eagles had every opportunity to win the game and advance but could not get by the great defense from the Lady Bears. Kassie James made great plays that saved the Lady Bears from going down, and Hope Russell pitched 3 innings in relief for Raven Cole and kept the Eagles scoreless. Finally the Lady Bears woke their bats back up and scored 5 runs in the top of the 10th to finally quiet the Barbers Hill Eagles. Kelsey Fults hit a two-run homer, Kassie James doubled to knock in Kayleigh Roy, and Taylor Fraccastoro put a dent in the centerfield fence for another double. The Lady Bears advance to the Regional Semi-Finals and will face Richmond Foster next. Keep going, Lady Bears!

Camrie Helm pitched for 4 and 2/3 innings giving up 2 hits, and Hope Russell came in for the save. Raven Cole came up in the bottom of the 7th to knock in Ashleigh Jones for the game winning run. Ashleigh Jones went 2 for 4 at the plate and scored 2 of the 3 runs, while Kassie James continued to stay hot going 2 for 2 and scoring the other run. Kelsey Fults and Baylie Comeaux both had a good day at the plate, and both had one RBI each. The Lady Bears defense was stellar once again with a great play from Morgan Babineaux, who turned a double play from left field in the top of the 7th to stop a Brenham attack. The Lady Bears will take on Barbers Hill on Friday, May 11, at Port Arthur Memorial High School starting at 6 p.m. with the second game to follow at 8 p.m. Congratulations and Good Luck to the Lady  Bears as they try to advance to the round!

Softball Team Wins Another Playoff Game! On Thursday, May 3, Kelsey Fults with a 2-out RBI single and Taylor Fraccastoro with a 2-out solo home run provided the offense for the Lady Bears to defeat Brenham 2-1 in Game 1 of their best-of-three series, but the story of the night was defense.  Brenham kept pressure on the Lady Bears all night with solid execution of bunts and timely hits.  Key plays included Kassie James fielding a good sacrifice bunt with 1-out and runner on second in bottom of fourth and turning to fire the ball to Loni Prouse at 3rd to tag out the runner.  With two outs in the bottom of the sixth and a runner at 2B, Brenham’s DP lines a single up the middle which Ashleigh Jones fields and fires a perfect throw to Baylie Comeaux at the plate just as the runner is sliding into home for the 3rd out.  Comeaux also ended another rally chasing a well placed 2-out Brenham bunt up the first base line to just get the runner at first.  A lot of close plays in this one and all-around solid defense by both teams. Raven Cole battled hard all night and dug deep to close out the complete game win. Raven gave up 1 run on 3 hits and had 5 strike outs.  Kassie James went 2 for 3 while Ashleigh Jones went 2 for 4 at the plate. The Lady Bears will face off with the Brenham Cubettes again on Saturday, May 5. Go, Lady Bears!

Baseball Team Wins First Playoff Game On Thursday, May 3, the baseball team defeated Crosby 12-8 in Game 1 of the playoffs. Ryan Carline picked up the win on the mound, while Dylon Young, Reid Fults, and Brandon Humphrey chipped in for a 10 strike out game. The offense had a never-say-die attitude all night. The Bears trailed 3 times in the game but wouldn’t quit fighting. Casey Burleigh got the Bears going early with a 2 out 2 RBI double in the second inning. Burleigh finished the game with 3 hits, 2RBIs and 2 Runs scored. Then in the fifth James Swan knocked a 2 RBI double to tie the game. Swan then scored on Jake Garza’s RBI ground out to give the Bears their first lead of the night. Reid Fults then drove in Zach Droulliard to give the Bears a two run lead. Fults finished the night with 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Then in the bottom of the seventh the Bears found themselves trailing once again. Down one with the bases loaded, Coach Griff and Reid Fults pulled off a fake steal of home that forced the Crosby pitcher to balk in the tying run, which set the stage for James Swan to hit a Monster grand slam over the centerfield wall to send the Bears to victory 12-8. Swan finished the game 4 for 4 with 6 RBI, 2 runs scored, and he reached base 5 times. Kevin Adams also chipped in by reaching base 3 times and scoring 2 runs. The baseball team will travel Friday to Barbers Hill for Game 2 of their series. Go, Bears!

LCMHS was named an “Ideal Inclusion School” by the National Special Olympics Headquarters in Washington, DC, and is referred to as a model school by Special Olympis trainers around the state. Activities such as the Bear Bowl and the student council’s campaign race on "Erase the R-Word" platform and their subsequent win for office on the Texas Association of Student Council were part of the selection process. Dr. Estes said, “Many things that we do on a daily basis and sometimes take for granted, like Life Skills students eating lunch with 'typically developing' students in the cafeteria, do not happen in other schools.
